Each year we get dozens of families on safari, some with kids as young as 6 years old and we absolutely love exposing these kids to the wonders of the bush. The last thing a young child wants to do, or a parent for that matter, is to be cooped up in a vehicle for two weeks. Our safaris are diverse, active, engaging and particularly suited to children.
On any safari, but with families in particular, the purpose is to have an eye-opening and educational experience that will stay with them for many years. To walk in the bush, examine tracks, stalk zebra or sleep on the tops of trees over waterholes are truly formative experiences for children. In addition, the exposure to different cultures is a highlight; bow and arrow contests with the Maasai or berry picking with the Hadza women. These are all the things that make a comprehensive safari special.
Of course with young children we do not walk onto the big stuff like elephants (but gentle giraffes are ok!). And we always ensure we go to the best wildlife areas, such as Serengeti, to ensure the family gets to see all of the big game.
Each year we also have several 'multi-generational' family groups with 8-15 people, from grandparents on down to grandkids. The benefit of a large group is that we arrange for all camps to be private and exclusive to your family. This is ideal for a celebration, holiday or anniversary and we always enjoy the fun nature of these groups.
Pricing: much of price is determined by the specific itinerary and the level of camp or lodge you stay in. We have luxury safaris and also some very affordable family safaris as well. There are discounts for children.
